For many years people going abroad from the north of England and the midlands have invariably used Manchester airport if they were travelling abroad because of the lack of alternative airports and a wider selection of destinations. Whilst Manchester airport still accounts for over 50% of the traffic there is no doubt that the other airports are catching up fast.

Manchester airport is still the main airport in the north its overall share of the Northern market has shrunk with East Midlands airport in particular growing at a greater rate. There is little doubt that travellers prefer to use their local airport and as a regular traveller from all the above mentioned airports I would say East Midlands is the best airport based on shorter travelling time to and from the airport.

Although if you are travelling from Manchester airport and due to timings you may want to think about using Manchester airport hotel with parking an option which is more pricey. But I must admit I do enjoy it, generally though I have found that parking at East Midlands airport and airport parking Birmingham to be generally cheaper than parking at Manchester airport. On top of cheaper airport parking, less travelling costs. Overall it just seems a lot less stressful experience.

There are really only 2 things that would make me choose Manchester airport over either East Midlands or Birmingham airport. The first being the time of the return flight I don’t like getting back to the terminal at 2am then having to drive . The second reason would be if the flight was considerably cheaper.
